My Thoughts on The Legend of Korra

The Legend of Korra, a continuation of Avatar the Last Airbender as well as its own story about the new Avatar after Avatar Aang and the 100 year war. Released in 2012 and ending in 2014, fans of the Avatar franchise are divided and conflicted about the series, (like everything in this world) some love it, some hate it, it’s not about the series being good or bad because everyone has their own opinion on it, So I’ll talk about my experience watching Korra and my opinion on the series. Before reading anything else, this article includes spoilers, if you haven’t watched ATLA or TLOK, then stop and go watch it…because they are both incredible pieces of animation.

All rights to Nickelodeon & Netflix

The Legend of Korra is the work of the same ATLA creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, it is a weird and conflicted show for me, I don’t hate it but I see that there’s some things that don’t go that well, Korra opens up with the war ending, we see that Aang became not just the savior of the world by ending the war, but he also alongside Zuko and the whole gang, created republic city and started to unite all nations. It not only shows something extremely interesting, a whole new modern world with law, tech, and a society that starts to live in a different time. And the fact that most of the original characters appear throughout the course of Korra’s journey is a great touch, showing how big was the impact of the original crew not just in Korra but on the world.

All rights to Nickelodeon & Netflix

Some people don’t like that each Book on Korra has its own conflict, villain, and plot. Unlike ATLA that it’s all one big story and one main focus. But I think it’s not a bad idea for the series to have that format, it’s more about the journey of Korra overcoming herself and growing to become the best version of herself other than just her trying to defeat a single guy across several seasons. And the character development in the show is great thanks to that, the fact that it’s focused on each character having their chance to shine and all of them being important at some point throughout the series.

All rights to Nickelodeon & Netflix

Mako, Azami, Bolin, Pabu, Naga and the rest of characters each one has their own things, they’re not just helping Korra be the best Avatar, unlike the original gang with Aang. I feel that Korra deserves more credit, and it deserves to be watched for a lot of reasons, it’s a great show that shows a different side of the world we already are familiar with. Korra shows how much potential the world of Avatar has, how many stories can be told, and why newer generations are getting into it, both Aang’s and Korra’s journeys are incredible in my opinion. My favorite moment on the series is when Korra meets Toph for the first time, Korra was completely losing her mind and was in a terrible place, and then Toph comes along to tell her every little thing she’s doing wrong, screaming and telling her to stop being such a baby, and she still calls her Twinkle toes. Do I need to say anything else, jus please go watch it, it’s on Netflix right now so you can watch every Book of both ATLA and TLOK.
